Join me as we discover three of the most important World Heritage classified sites in Portugal: Tomar, Batalha and Alcobaça!
Also known as the “Templar City”, in Tomar we will unveil the charms of the “Mata dos Sete Montes”, the Castle and Convent of Christ (listed by UNESCO as World Heritage since 1983)! There will also be time for a quick stop so that you can enjoy a tasty meal at one of the many restaurants located in the typical commerce streets on the banks of Nabão River.
After lunch we shall be heading to Batalha, while doing a strategic stop at the fabulous “Aqueduct of Pegões Altos”. This aqueduct, responsible for water supply to the Convent of Christ in Tomar, is 6km lengthwise and 30m high, and is considered one of the most impressive portuguese constructions from the end of the 16th Century and beginning of the 17th Century!
In Batalha we will visit the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória (also known as Mosteiro da Batalha, classified by UNESCO as World Heritage since 1983)! We will also be visiting the place where a legendary battle took place, which ended in the biggest dystonic crisis in Portuguese history while unveiling the tale of the Baker of Aljubarrota!
Then we will be visiting Alcobaça and its beautiful Monastery, one of the most imponent testimonies of Circestience architecture in all of Europe (classified by UNESCO since 1989). There we will be visiting the canteen and its impressive kitchen, the dormitory, the chapter hall, the cloisters of D. Dinis and the hall of Kings!
