After trying out this tour, there's no way you won't let yourself fall in love with Coimbra!
Coimbra rests at the shores of the longest river born in Portugal from the highest mountains of Serra da Estrela. Originally known as “Monda”, a name given by the Romans who inhabited the city when it was called “Aeminium”, this water line allowed the city to grow for centuries while enclosing countless myths and love stories that still delights all those who visit it.
During this tour you'll be able to understand the full importance of Rio Mondego: firstly, to the Romans, and then during all the Reconquering period - from the XII century on - which paved way to the Kingdom of Portugal!
As we walk through this history filled places you will listen to the myths and love stories sang throughout the centuries by poets, which still today gives Coimbra an unique aura lending it the distinction as the “Portuguese Capital of Love”. You'll hear the story of “Rainha Santa” and the most beautiful and tragic love story Portugal has ever witnessed: a breathtaking romance between D. Pedro I de Portugal and Inês de Castro (the Portuguese version of Romeo and Juliet!).
